Ghost & me

My cold is gone! finally!

After 3 + weeks, the illness i've been supporting like a couch-surfing friend is finally gone, and I feel I have enough energy to oh, I don't know, exercise and clean up the place. Oh, and cook all the meals I've been buying stuff for. Hooray!

I started a Facebook account, and within minutes, located people I haven't seen since college. between current and old contacts, I have like 75 friends in three days. It's a kind of hard to manage. I like the shout outs to old friends, but I had to search for 5 minutes for a specific msg. Cool, but kind of overwhelming.

(no subject)

Barak Obama! Yea!

Slightly Hungover. Boo.

It'll be a while until we know if our boy Mark Begich will carry the senate, but there's about 50 thousand absentee and early ballots to count. *fingers crossed*

Supreme Court Meme

I was going to go with Miller vs California, another obscenity vs 1st amendment case, or even Marbury vs Madison, which established the principal of judicial review, but then I remembered how we got here in the first place:

Bush v Gore (2000)

establishing the right of the supreme court to decide national elections along a party line vote, overturning the constitutional provision that the house of representatives will decide the outcome in case of a tie in the electoral college.

I'm just saying...
Ghost & me

Hi - I'm currently basking in the lurk. this post is but a mere echo from the deep.

I actually have stuff to report about our bad-ass burlesque show this weekend, and my current adventures in jury duty, but am currently too lazy.

see y'all soon when I get back from the slack

T-minus 28 hours to vacation.

We're going on vacation tomorrow night.(with relatives, so whether it's actually a vacation or not is debatable)

I haven't really started packing yet, but I've started thinking about packing. It's a process. So far, I'm bringing four pairs of shoes, and a sport coat, and a hoodie. more to follow.

Work has been interesting and stressful, as I swim upstream against the flow of bureaucracy to try to clear my desk so I can be gone for a whole week. Most people are going to be gone part or all of next week too, so there is not much with the stressing.

I'm reminded of a passage from Neuromancer about the importance of keeping a balance between moving too slow and sinking to the bottom, and moving too fast, breaking the fragile surface tension of our little pond, and being destroyed by the powers that be.

The weeks before and after I go on vacation are the most stressful of the year, since I try to do two weeks of work before I go, but work piles up anyway while I'm gone. I work for a large mortgage lender, but I'm kind of like a case worker, so although someone will be covering for me, they won't work that shit like I will, because they're working their own shit at the same time.

I'm down to the last day, I've gotten a lot done, and no matter what happens tomorrow, I'm going on vacation at the end of the day, and nothing will change that.

Two pairs of shorts? or is that tempting disaster?

So, I went to my High School class reunion this weekend, and it was great.

Had just as much fun at the gathering for classmates (mixer? drink up?) at Koot's Friday night as I did at the reception for classmates and their spouses at the Millennium on Saturday, but friday night was much cheaper. (good going, Koot's)

I saw people who mostly live in Anchorage (many in Seattle)that I never see anymore and was mostly happy to see them. I talked to several people who I didn't expect to see at all(high school drama star, kindergarten classmate) and that was cool.

Only one of my high school friends was in attendance, which was a little strange. I'm not in contact with any of them anymore.

I developed a quick spiel summarizing my life and acomplishments to date, which didn't really say that much about me, but hey, it was a grip-and-grin.

After the reception/what-have-you on saturday, we went out to the Anchor Pub, which sounds homey, but is actually kind of clubbish. We stopped by a low key shindig in Fairiew, and after several cocktails, continued on to the Anchor, where I consumed several more cocktails, schmoozed some more, danced a lot for the first time in ages, and watched my high school bud hook up with a newly divorced classmate. Good times.

Sunday I didn't even pretend to get out of bed until 2 or 3.
